Miata is always the answer, right? Dead wrong! We put together this list of 7 lightweight sports cars and they’re all cheap, plentiful, have a ton of aftermarket support, and most importantly: they’re not Miatas. This is D-List!

Let's see cause I was looking for a z but yeah prices are up
Stop making videos like these it makes my project car more and more expensive
Came here to see a good project car other than e36 (because my place is full of them) e36 in N1 on the list :(
i picked up a 924s for $650, it needs some lovein but i cant wait to get her on the road
These are some great project cars! I actually have a NC MX-5 though and am extremely happy to have it, as a semi project car. Yes, it's not like a go-cart MKI or MKkII but it still handles brilliantly and I actually like the refinements.
But e36s are fucking expensive
944 Broke up easly
BMWs might be cheap to buy, but a horrible time to buy parts for. So freaking expensive.
You have to do the maintenance and the E36 parts are cheap (at least here in Europe) irworld.info/show/fy-lm-h-y/gIB5aLuElrqItcQ.html, the E36 is cheaper to fix than most BMW's after it
The e36 is a special one for me cause my dad has one Back then But its unreliable so it got sold for about 6 grand
Many people with E36's have been happy, but the US models do kind of suck
The E36 is reliable compared to most BMW's after it, maybe you got a bad apple irworld.info/show/fy-lm-h-y/gIB5aLuElrqItcQ.html and it's much easier to work on compared to BMW's after it and it has lots of after market
What do you guys think of the 1st gen Acura RDX?
Im just mad that even crappy, rusted, almost junk 911's are around 15-20k usd.
Hahah do your research before spouting off about crankwalk on the 4g63 which really just happened to the gen 1 7 bolt i.e. 95-97 after that the 7 bolt was fixed with a split thrust bearing which fixed the issues. So my 99 eclipse it won't happen to.. at least it shouldn't.
Also calling dsm unattractive is just wrong! I think the 2gb dsms are some of the best looking cars ever! Love the line and they look so good lowered with 18's.
What's up with Up to speed? 😐
"Crankwalk" might be better than "Pop-up, up and down headlights"
XD The cheapest Porsche 944 in my country costs 20000$ :(
when he didn’t say eg civic:😢
@Cody Miller ye del sol is lighter than the eg.I just am a fan of hatches still love the del sol tho
@Kasey Wolf that’s why it’s 100 pounds heavier and slower
Because the EK is better
When they didn't mention the civic del sol
Hey James and Donut Media! I'd love to see you guys do a best project TRUCK list!! Please make my day.
just sits here in my garage with my Indy Fiero. its like a miata, cept they put the engine in the back, WHERE IT BELONGS
Ok I've had it. Don't get me wrong, I love this channel, but I have had it with this slander about DSMs being ugly. I have seen two videos this week talking this nonsense. Now I'm not saying that stock DSMs are the prettiest tuner on the planet, but they definitely have potential. And I especially can't believe I'm hearing this filth from some chump from the Miata community. Could I handle it from the MR2 community? Probably. An E46 guy? Almost certainly. 944 fanatic? Most definitely. But all this mess about talking up the looks of Miatas, Golfs, and Civics (really... CIVICS!?!?!). Miatas are the sort of car where you wear a tinted helmet to your autoX event, but you refuse to take it off despite the 95 degree heat and the fact you thought an A/c delete was a good idea for that extra 4hp. Because you really want to be competitive, but you don't want your friends to think you're going through an early midlife crisis or something. And don't even get me started on those civics...
Foxbodys are expensive as hell in my area.
now none of these are going to be affordable, therefore making them pretty shit project cars.
I've been stalking Porsche 944s for over a year. I want one soooo badly, definitely will get one one day. I always told myself I needed a Porsche and a Stang in my garage, got my Mustang, next is the Porsche.
See i have an E46. And I love it. I just want some more money to actually modify it
Do a video on the 4g69 mivec
best cheap pee car is the vr6 corrado
If the MK3 was the best, youd only have owned one.
Is the EXP a foxbody also?
I literally just bought a porshe 944
Pop-up up and down headlights Crankwalk Three more and we got ourselves a grammy worthy Donut EP
Is it just me or is James starting to sound like Olan Rogers XD
Lol, your number 1 pick was exactly what I thought when I started the video
4g63? In my Mitsu Outlander it lasteded me 90.000 miles and pinston rings gave out. Then I was looking at 80.000 Eclipse to buy... Oil in coolant. Not a good experience with Mitsu. Completely agreeing with regads to Z.
new SONG :DDDD
perfect project car would be a fucked up rx7/rx8
FR-S/ BRZ are also cheap af lately
I hate to break the cycle but I despise the miata
james pumphrey certified woo
LOL @ 240sx are too expensive!
Miatas are still the best because Miata Is Always The Answer
you guys talking like the nissan v16 don't exist
my father owns an e36 m3 and a 79' camaro z28
I need a full crank walk music video
its up, fan made, i need a whole album
“We single-handedly inflated the price of a Miata, so here are some other cars that will be unaffordable for you in less than a month because of this video”
Crank walk, pop up up and down headlights, and roll out up and down headlights. Album would be 🔥🔥🔥
Its funny that bmw has been making i6s since the 30s and they still break down
My cats breathe smells like cat food
love the thin dell laptop hahahahahah
Why did you chose the e36 over the e46? Because there isn't such a big aftermarket?
Their BETTER be a BMW E30 on this list😑
"i've owned about 16 of em"
Where are the vettes!?!
My little brother has a 944 just sitting in storage I wish he'd give it to work or just get rid of it😂
1. Fox body mustang (5.0L) 2. The DSM triplets (Laser, Eclipse, Talon) 3. Golf GTI (get anti-theft) 4. Porsche 944 5. Nissan 350z 6. BMW E36 (z3 is a Miata equivalent)
I wanna see a lexsus is
4:21
Me watching with my Em1 thinking everyone hates them...
how about bmw e46?
I had a 6th gen Civic Si. Amazing car. I didn't own an E36, but I owned an E34, 2 E39, and an E90.
Just found a 350z near me for $6,000 HYPE
Alright, I got 3 old VW’s. All cabriolet’s (AKA rabbit’s). All convertibles. The one I’m gonna start working on is the 1989 cabriolet, which looks a lot like the VW Golf MK 2. I just wanna know: are the parts between the GTI and the cabriolet compatible? There isn’t a community for the Rabbit, but I guess there is a market for the GTI I’m hoping to hitch my wagon to.
I built a 550hp 4wd talon... The frame/chassis sucks! And the 4 banger is shit until it boosts
4:22 let's start a petition for James to release a rap album which will also include the pop up headlights song. Grab your blue thumbs below. 5:57 Everyone forgot about the balls in the gti??
On the dsm "crankwalk" really only applies to the 7 bolt engine not the 6 bolt engine . Also get the 91 eagle talon tsi with 4 bolt rear end . Thank me later :D
4:20 #PostMalone
Z32 > Z33
Good thing i had mine before youtubers fucked up the market lol
Bmw e46 m3....??
Honda Civic should be at the top of this list. Its more versatile than any of the cars listed. It also has the largest aftermarket support from any common vendor. Thanks to Hasport (VTEC Academy), AVID, or INNOVATIVE, you can put literally any engine from any modern day Honda under the hood of a Civic; even the new Type R K20c. Theyre also much cheaper to make faster than any car on this list. Now with AWD kits available, the sky is the limit. - Sincerly a fanboy
Another James Pumphrey single lmao
Good luck finding a manual I6 E36 in the US much less one that isn't rusted to hell
End of anecdote 😂😂
Me living in Europe and can’t even find any of these cars under 5.000€ which are in decent shape
Volvo 850 t5 ,t5r, 5r
That's funny. I thought gtis were ugly pieces of shit with cheap interiors and even worse speakers. With an even worse ride and the feeling like you're gonna tip when going around a corner. And they've definitely not made a civic for me
No vw Jetta?
My dad has already set me up with so many project cars I swear I’m gonna end up just like him, with too many project cars
You should do a video on the way other countries get creative on car security since you mentioned low jack.
You clearly have not seen what slavs did with E36. It's virtually impossible to get one in good shape.
why are these video's so annoying to look pff
Saturn Ion Redline, too ;)
Wait, what about the toyota tureno sprinter. Thats one of my favorite project cars, also big love for ir golf james ❤
lexus is200 cough cough
As a 12 year old with a Miata as his dream car I must say. *why, donut. why?*
@Cut Lemon And they are unsafe
@Cut Lemon well I still like them.
@Cut Lemon oh
god damn what a great commercial on that endings!!!
JAMES!! Me and my friends who are loyal subscribers who have been watching your channel for a LOOONNNGG time have been repeatedly bringing your song out anytime we answer the phone from calling each other or just a everyday occurrence from daily conversations so with that being said can you PLEASE make a song or a music video for your new found profession of car music industry? Do that crank walk boi!
Crown Victoria, without a doubt.
I never thought I would ever hear anyone agree with me about the 6th gen civic. My first car was a 6th gen coupe in black. Drove that bitch for 8 years
That crankwalk song needs to drop 😤
D-d-d-d List
That crank walk track kinda slapped
Just say no to a 7th gen civic. Don't be like me😐
"maybe you're 6'3" Me: 👁️👄👁️
What about the Subaru GC8 (Impreza GT/WRX)?
Every time I watch a donut video I want to just go out and buy a project car. Only issue is 1. No money 2. I know absolutely nothing about cars
Me and my dad have been working on our z3 for a while now, so I’m watching a bunch of car vids to learn what I can so I can help more
The yellow evo is deep fried and bass boosted *THE* YELLOW EVO MEME man this is some underground GT joke
Is a mk3 supra a good project car?
Golf's and Miata's are both 100% lame girl cars or ghey dudes. You guys have horrible taste.
Lol! Research fail!!! If you're going to bring up crank walk with the 4G63 you should really understand it. 1. You said it effects the 4G63 motor which obviously is true, but it's only the gen 2 7 bolt version 1. All the 1990 to 1994 1st gen dsms have a 6 bolt crank which isn't effected. So the only one you have ro worry about is the 1995 to 97 7 bolt aka 2GA. The 2GB or 98 thur 99 have a redesigned 7 bolt after Mitsu realized the issue and they now had a split thrust bearing which helped to elevate crank walk.
Guys you forgot about the Celica, it is cheap, has a lof of aftermarket parts who are cheap too, it is very well build and reliable and it is a TOYOTA
7th Gen had a funky oil pan design and when cornering the oil would go to the leaning side and the engine would suck in air causing the engine to blow up, there are replacement oil pans tho.
